Aleksandar Kolarov looks like he will miss Inter’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, while Marcelo Brozovic is also a doubt after the covid-19 positives.
Real Madrid and Inter Milan will meet again in the Champions League next week in a fundamental match for both teams’ commitment to qualify for the knockout stages of Group B and Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte will have to wait to see if players key are available after several positive tests for COVID-19 in both fields.
Inter defender Aleksandar Kolarov tested positive for coronavirus after returning from international service with Serbia, while Marcelo Brozovic was also discharged from the Croatian national team for the same reason. Meanwhile, Casemiro, Éder Militão and Eden Hazard tested positive for the virus.
Inter and Madrid met in the Spanish capital before the international break when Zidane’s side won a 3-2 barefoot match to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Inter are currently last in Group B with Madrid in third place after three rounds of matches with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Shakhtar occupying the qualifiers.
Inter face shortage after Kolarov’s positive
Kolarov was tested on Monday after his return to Italy after being an unused substitute in a penalty shootout loss to Scotland that denied Serbia a place in the European Championship next year.
Inter say Kolarov is asymptomaticBut it looks like he will miss the Serie A clash with Torino on Sunday and the Champions League return game against Real Madrid.
A statement from Inter said: “FC Internazionale Milano can confirm Aleksandar Kolarov tested positive yesterday while going through the controls upon his return from international service.
“The player, who is totally asymptomatic, will now follow all the guidelines and procedures established by the health protocol.”
Kolarov has made six appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, creating eight chances and providing one assist.
The only Nerazzurri defenders who have provided the most key passes are Achraf Hakimi and Ashley Young. (both 10), and they have also scored two goals each.
However, Hakimi has appeared in nine games and Young has appeared in seven.
