The construction company Muro Cortina Modular Renting (MCM) has filed a claim with the commercial courts of Barcelona, requesting that Barcelona declare itself in bankruptcy to get the 3.5 million euros that according to MCM owes them the football club for his work on the facade of the La Masia building.
MCM alleges that the debt is related to a contract signed on December 22, 2010, during the presidency of Sandro Rosell, and the term expired on June 30, 2017. The Barcelona-based construction company included Barcelona in its list of debtors in March 2018, but the two entities continue to disagree, amid claims and counterclaims.
The MCM has already had a claim for breach of contract against Barcelona rejected by the courts, which even ordered it to pay the legal costs of the football club, some 900,000 euros that the club assures that it has not yet received. For their part, the people of Barcelona have filed a claim against MCM for alleged structural damage to the work that has so far cost them more than 250,000 euros in repairs.
This latest demand comes at a particularly bad time for Barcelona, given their financial situation. Remember that the club has been trying to negotiate salary restructuring deals with its higher-earning players to navigate the hostile waters of COVID-19 while operating relatively normally. With this in mind, MCM has asked the court to appoint an administrator to replace the current board, led by Carles Tusquets, in order to better safeguard the club’s social position.
