Columbus Crew announces extension of defender Jonathan Mensah’s contract

The US team, Columbus Crew, has confirmed that it has tied defender Jonathan Mensah to a new contract.

The Ghana international joined the Major League Soccer (MLS) team in 2017 after ending his stint with Anzhi Makhachkala of the Russian Premier League.

After an outstanding 3-year stay at the club, Jonathan Mensah has signed a new contract and will continue to play in MLS for the next year.

Columbus Crew SC announced today that it has signed defender Jonathan Mensah to a multi-year contract extension using money allocated starting in 2021. The 30-year-old is in his fourth season with Crew SC and was named Club captain prior to the 2020 Campaign.

“Mensah has made 95 regular season appearances (92 starts) for Crew SC and has received two Crew SC Defender of the Year awards (2018, 2019) and an OhioHealth Humanitarian of the Year award (2017),” a club statement for announce the new agreement has said.

This season, Jonathan Mensah has shown good form in MLS and has contributed greatly to the success of the Columbus Crew campaign.
