Coca-Cola in Ghana to lay off workers over coronavirus bites

Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited has said that it has decided to lay off some of its workers in response to the major changes required by the scourge of COVID-19 and other challenges.

“It has become necessary to introduce important changes in our operating model and organizational structures, to maintain the viability of the business. These changes cause some employees to exceed the requirements, ”the company said in a statement.

According to the statement, in accordance with the provisions of the Ghana Labor Act 2003 (ACT 651), the management has notified the Director of Labor of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations of the company’s intention to declare a layoff that will affect the employment of a Number of employees.

However, the layoffs will proceed after the respective union leaders have agreed on the terms and conditions of the severance package.

In January this year, workers at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Ghana embarked on a protest against the removal of the company’s managing director, Seth Adu-Baah.

The workers accused the company of unfair treatment against Ghanaian managers.
