The central regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) has suspended campaign activities in the region for the next three days following the assassination of its Mfantseman parliamentary candidate, Mr. Ekow Kwansa Hayford.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr. Richard Takyi-Mensah, PNP Regional Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
In addition, the leadership has ordered that the Party flags in the regional and district offices of the Region fly at half-staff for the next seven days.
The Party expressed its condolences to the family of the late deputy and his closest collaborators and asked the PNP fraternity to remain calm.
“We are hopeful that the police will conduct a very swift and professional investigation into this cruel murder so that the perpetrators of this horrible crime face all the rigors of the law,” the statements said.
Ekow Quansah Hayford, a 49-year-old PNP MP from Mfantseman, was killed by suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Friday while returning from a campaign trip in the Abeadze Dominase area in his constituency.
