Our head coach, CK Akonnor, has been speaking with the Ghana Football Association media team before the home game against Sudan.
Ghana will host the North Africans in an AFCON qualifier on Thursday at Cape Coast, a venue where they recorded a 2-0 win against South Africa in November 2019.
In this interview, Coach Akonnor discusses the attitude of the players amid COVID-19, the threat from Sudan and the absence of Thomas Partey.
This is what he told us:
It has been very difficult to parade the kids due to the fact that COVID-19 and many other problems have affected us. And to those who made it, we really appreciate the fact that people like Jordan and others had it, but they were the first people to come and so we can only be proud of them and we are happy, we have a full house now believing that tomorrow it will. we will do well and win the match convincingly.
In sudan
They are a team that, compared to the problem we had, they did not have it because most of their players are local players, they have been together for quite some time. But that doesn’t really worry us. It is a fact that they will like to play defense and make things difficult for us. But we are aware of what they are capable of and we are really very well prepared. Today, we’ll go through some video sessions and let the guys know what needs to be done and hopefully we’ll get it right to get ahead.
On the player’s attitude towards work
I look at the captain, his brother, and the rest who got there first. They were in a very difficult situation. This is a very good sign, a positive sign that they want to do their best. I am very aware of what they want to do. I have spoken with almost everyone and I think they have given me the necessary confidence that I need. And I think that tomorrow they will be very positive and will deliver.
About Thomas Partey
I wish you a speedy recovery and hope that you recover quickly to join us. But of course it’s a chance for other guys to stand out. If he was here, he would have played, it’s a fact. So now that he’s not here, it’s an opportunity for those who mostly come and stay on the bench to play, so we’ll give the next person a chance to do well. I will give the necessary support to whoever plays to help us win.
