Former Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda believes CK Akonnor can lead the Black Stars to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] in Cameroon.

The West African country is on the hunt for a fifth Afcon title.

The last time the Black Stars won the most prestigious tournament in Africa was in 1982 in Libya.

Ghana has come close to ending the trophy drought in the last decade, 2010 Angola lost to Egypt in the finals and in 2015 Equatorial Guinea-Gabon when the Stars lost to Côte d’Ivoire on penalties.

However, according to the Legon Cities captain, the country can win the next AFCON title if the invited players play with a winning mentality.

“Ghana can win the next Afcon. I remember we were close in 2015 but we were unlucky, Ivory Coast won, “Dauda told Kumasi. Hi FM.

“This time, we may be able to win it. Let’s pray and see what God will do for us.

“As a player, I think if the guests come in with a winning mentality, we may be able to win the trophy,” he added.
