CK Akonnor has the qualifications to be a top-tier coach, says Brentford Fordward Tariq Fosu

Tariq Fosu, Brentford forward, believes CK Akonnor will become a top player thanks to his knowledge and understanding of the game.

Akonnor was named successor to Kwesi Appiah in January on a two-year contract.

The former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach was on the bench for the first time in October in an international friendly match against Mali and Qatar in Antalya in Turkey, winning one and losing one.

The 46-year-old also led the Blak Stars to a 2-0 win over Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. [Afcon] first game of the qualifiers at Cape Coast Stadium, but lost by just one goal in the reverse game at Omdurman.

However, Fosu, who received a debut call-up for Ghana’s senior team, Akonnor Black Stars, believes that the former Wolfsburg captain has the qualities to be a leader in the future.

“I think he [CK Akonnor] he understands football very well and obviously he was a good player himself, “he told the Ghana FA website.” I’ve watched videos and done a lot of research.

“He has a good philosophy and very good tactics. And especially today, he has shown in the few sessions what he is about and the tactics.

“If you listen to the tactics, it’s going to work, so I definitely think he’s a top-notch coach.”

The 24-year-old also expressed his willingness to honor a call to the Black Stars at any time.

“I hope so. I think I can help the team a lot and I’m ready every time I get a call to represent my country, so obviously it’s up to the coach to decide the tactics, but I’m always ready to help.” added.

Akonnor hopes to seal the Black Stars qualification for Afcon 2021 to be held in Cameroon.
