The Ghana Christian Council and the Ghana Eminent Persons Religious Leaders Group have asked the Election Commission (EC) to listen to all complaints from stakeholders regarding anomalies detected in the display exercise.
The Chairman of the Group of Eminent Persons, Professor JOY Mante, in a statement signed Monday, noted that this will be one of the first steps to resolve the tension that is brewing between citizens, in particular political actors.
He also suggested that “the EC should fully involve IPAC and other key stakeholders in all processes to avoid situations that we are witnessing at this time when the elections are so close.”
Professor Mante also appealed to the public and political parties to help the Electoral Commission (EC) in any way to facilitate the proper functioning of the exercise of displaying voter records and correct the problems detected.
“The Eminent Persons Group is hopeful that the EC will provide an enabling environment in which all critical stakeholders can participate in processes to avoid suspicion.
“We call on the media to support the process and avoid sensationalism,” he added.
This comment follows complaints raised by the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) that the EC has deliberately removed the names of voters in its strongholds from the voter register to disenfranchise them.
Meanwhile, the Commission has revealed that it has recovered most of the missing names that were detected in the newly compiled voter roll during the exposures exercise.
