The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has emphasized the need for peace throughout the country after the recently completed presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2020.

According to the Council, it is “deeply concerned about the tensions that have accumulated in the country, following the declaration of the presidential results by the Electoral Commission (EC)” on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

In a letter signed by the President, Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, and the Secretary General of the Christian Council of Ghana, they revealed that the council is “working to involve all stakeholders” to ensure that peace in the country is not committed.

In light of this, the Council has asked the EC to address any outstanding issues with electoral districts that had problems with the election results.

The Council is also calling on the incumbent government to speak out about the regrettable murders that occurred in some constituencies during the general elections. In addition, he called on the government to carry out investigations and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.

An appeal was also made to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid statements that tend to provoke chaos and the NDC was urged to desist from protests and street disturbances and rather turn to court to seek redress.
