Choosing between an ‘armed robber’ and a ‘robber’

For the past two years, the NPP and NDC campaign focused on indictments and accusations of corruption between them. Even in less than 50 hours until December 7, 2020, the loudest drum and tune sing nothing different from bribery and corruption.

For the first time since 1992, the manifesto policies of the two major political parties have been blacked out by the history of who is more corrupt in the race for Flagstaff House. Namely, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and John Dramani Mahama.

Any accusation of corruption directed against one candidate requests the same equalization measure and / or the degree or level of corruption of the other candidate. It is a reference to the current corrupt activities of the government led by Akufo Addo or the past administration of John Mahama.

Ghana’s electorate has been exposed to corruption / bribery images, photos, videos, documents, files, and anti-corruption / bribery images, photos, videos, documents and files to demonstrate, defend or establish who is more corrupt than the other. Not to prove who is not corrupt.

Documents, photos and videos sealed with FAKE !! they have become so common on our social media and mainstream media to the extent that, the true meaning of the word, FALSE is lost on the average Ghanaian. The original of such documents has been turned into salt in a soup. The Ghanaian is coaxed into feeling the original, but not allowed to see it so that he can make an informed decision.

As a result, over time the Ghanaian has become unsure whether his own image, photo, video or reflection in the mirror is original or false. Unless you receive majority authentication from viewers and followers.

Based on my cursory research, the voter is more confused in 2020 than in any other election year. This is because the voter has been denied quality campaigning, lucid political debates, lectures, and media talk shows on key points in political party manifestos to inform the voter on December 7.

The overzealousness of the two main party communicators to show which candidate is the most corrupt has developed apathy in most undecided voters. “There is nothing to choose between these two people”, “NPP and NDC are the same”, “The alternative is the same”, etc. have become the cliche on his lips. As Dr. Steve Manteaw said, the 2020 voter is torn between voting for an armed robber and a robber. The campaign style of the two main political parties rightly created this impression.

All research results published so far and yet to be published have between 7% and 10% undecided voters. In numbers, these undecided voters may be over 1.6 million to 2 million. In fact, this group is the one that decides who wins the elections on December 7, 2020. In the absence of this group refusing to vote on December 7, the main political party that is able to mobilize its grassroots supporters / core already the first time voters to vote, will win the day.

However, within 52 hours, the party that can send the right message and targeted 10% of the undecided audience can get some numbers.

But for the rural population and most of the lower strata of society, they will vote for policies that have the potential to lift them out of poverty. Accusations of corruption have never been one of their considerations when choosing their presidents.
