Chelsea’s foreign players return to England as stars prepare to resume training

The Chelsea first-team players who had been abroad during the closure have returned with training due to the restart.

North London Blues rivals Arsenal welcomed the players last week.

And now, people like Kepa Arizzabalaga, Willian, Pedro, Marcos Alonso, Emerson, Christian Pulisic and Andreas Christensen have returned to England.

Chelsea had asked their players to return to the capital by May 3.

Kepa, Pedro, and Alonso had returned to their native Spain, Pulisic returned to America, Christensen went to Denmark, and Emerson was in Italy.

Some clubs are waiting for the government council, which establishes the latest social distancing measures before making decisions about when to return, Sky Sports reports.

Chelsea’s Cobham Training Ground has been closed since mid-March, while Stamford Bridge opened earlier this month.

Players who live near the Blues’ home were allowed to train on the field, although only individual sessions were sanctioned.

The Premier League will have a meeting on restarting the project once the prime minister has addressed the nation next Sunday.

The season is expected to resume next month with nine league games remaining for most teams.

Chelsea currently occupies last place in the Champions League with a three-point lead over Manchester United in fifth place.

The Blues have four games left at home with five on the way, though any restart is likely to be on neutral ground.

Frank Lampard’s team have FA Cup quarterfinals against Leicester to consider, as well as a Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in Germany.

The Blues were humiliated 3-0 in West London by the German champions in the first leg of their last 16 draws shortly before the football season was suspended.
