Chelsea turns attention to Edouard Mendy
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea will now turn their attention to Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy after completing the seventh signing of the summer.
The Blues completed the transfer of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. The German became the seventh finish this summer following in the footsteps of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva.
Having restructured the squad quite a bit, it appears that Frank Lampard is not done yet, with a new goalkeeper on the agenda. And it is understandable where the Chelsea manager comes from.
The Blues’ starting goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, has not lived up to expectations. And backup cap Willy Caballero is approaching forty and cannot be counted on week after week.
Therefore, a new goalkeeper should be a priority for the Blues. While a move had been proposed for Mike Maignan of LOSC Lille, the club has now turned away from the Frenchman.
Instead, Chelsea will now focus on bringing in Rennes shooting stopper Edouard Mendy, according to the aforementioned report.
The 28-year-old Mendy has been with Rennes for just one year, having signed with French club Stade de Reims last summer in a deal worth £ 3.6 million.
In his first season with Rennes, the Senegalese goalkeeper played a pivotal role, finishing third in Ligue 1 and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

According to the report, Chelsea has already had a £ 14 million offer rejected by the goalkeeper. However, the Blues are expected to return with an improved offer for the 28-year-old.
Mendy, an experienced customer who is coming after a good season, has the necessary qualities to improve our goalkeeping department. Given Chelsea’s success rate in the market this summer, we can expect the Ligue 1 star at the Bridge in the near future.
