Blues favorites for United’s Gomes

Chelsea have held talks for out-of-contract Manchester United teenager Angel Gomes and are favorites to land the England Under-20 international.

That is according to a report in the Mirror, which claims Blues transfer chief Marina Granovskaia has held talks with Pini Zahavi, who has been hired as the midfielder’s new agent.

Gomes has featured just six times for United this season – falling behind fellow youngsters Mason Greenwood and Tatith Chong in first-team minutes – and is out of contract this summer.

He is said to have rejected a £ 30k-per-week offer to stay at Old Trafford and now looks set to move on, while he would appear to fit into the Chelsea project of young, English players.

Chelsea ‘bid’ for Osimhen?

Lille striker Victor Osimhen is likely to be in hot demand this summer and there were suggestions in France last week that the Blues were the club behind at £ 75m bid.

Chelsea fans have already seen what the Nigerian striker is capable of – he netted in the Ligue 1 club’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Frank Lampard’s side earlier this campaign.

The Blues boss has insisted Osimhen – who has netted 13 league goals this season – has “everything in his game” – however the talk of that bid being from Chelsea appears wide of the mark. That, however, is not to say Chelsea do not maintain an interest.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United are other clubs linked for the Lille striker and the position is one Chelsea are likely to prioritize this summer with the futures of Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi uncertain.

Zola inspired Abramovich to buy Chelsea

Roman Abramovich’s decision to buy Chelsea back in the summer of 2003 was hugely inspired by the club’s legendary playmaker Gianfranco Zola.

It is said that the Russian was unaware the former Parma star was actually leaving the club that summer to return to Cagliari, with reports that Abramovich was also considering buying the Sardinian club as a result.

The chain of events started during Euro 1996 and the subsequent months, with Blues boss Glenn Hoddle going to replace Terry Venables as Three Lions boss, and Ruud Gullit coming in to transform the squad at Stamford Bridge.

Zola was one of the arrivals and instantly became a cult hero at Stamford Bridge with his huge technical ability and range of dazzling tricks.
