Chelsea duo could miss Premier League clash against Southampton
According to Football.London, Chelsea could be without Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy for our Premier League clash against Southampton this weekend.
The two summer signings are key players who came on board to strengthen two key positions. So far they have been impressed by the limited opportunities available to them.
While it’s not confirmed if the duo will be dating, it remains to be seen if Frank Lampard will risk wearing them unless they are fully fit.
Mendy suffered a thigh injury in training while on duty for Senegal. Chelsea are ready to make a late decision on the goalkeeper’s physical condition.
In the event that he is lost, Willy Caballero is expected to get the go-ahead on Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spanish played in the country’s friendly against Spain, where he kept a clean sheet.
Interestingly, he was chosen for David de Gea for both matches of the League of Nations of Spain. It seems that he is no longer the first choice goalkeeper for the club and the country.
Chilwell, meanwhile, was not part of England’s matchday call-up against Denmark yesterday. The Blues star returned to Chelsea early on as a precaution.
He will undergo further testing before a decision is made regarding his involvement against the Saints.

On a positive note, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are expected to be fit. The American international came off the bench against Crystal Palace last time out.
This was his first appearance since he was injured in the FA Cup final last season against Arsenal. Ziyech, on the other hand, will make his competitive debut for the Blues.
The Moroccan was out of play after suffering an injury in the preseason friendly against Brighton. He appeared for his country against Senegal and even received an assist.
