Craig Burley claims Jack Grealish would have been a better Chelsea signing than Kai Havertz

Former Chelsea star Craig Burley praised Jack Grealish and claimed Chelsea should have targeted the Englishman.

Grealish saved Aston Villa from relegation last year. However, this season has been a different story for the Villans.

Dean Smith’s team ranks fifth in the Premier League, but leaders Liverpool have two games left. They also defeated the defending champions 7-2 at Villa Park, with Grealish playing a leading role.

The 25-year-old has five goals and six assists in the league this season and is improving with every game under his belt.

Burley was speaking on ESPN FC and suggested that the Blues missed out on a quality player (h / t The Sun):

“I wouldn’t have been against signing Jack Grealish. It’s been magnificent again, a fantastic season ”.

Burley claimed that Grealish has everything in the bag, while Kai Havertz looks lost and Timo Werner lacks confidence.

Werner and Havertz were two of our big signings before the start of this season. However, the pair have not clicked regularly under Frank Lampard.

More options from Grealish

The Englishman can play as a winger or in midfield and he has been in incredible form for Villa.

Burley added that Grealish could do a lot more for the Blues:

“Timo Werner is different because Jack Grealish is a midfielder who can do a little bit of everything. Werner is an attacker, and essentially so is Havertz, although he can play a little deeper.

“Grealish would have given them more options than Havertz.”

Havertz came in with a lot of enthusiasm from Bayer Leverkusen, but the 21-year-old has yet to find his place under Lampard.

More Chelsea news

The German has three assists in the Premier League and three in the Champions League this season. However, he has played 19 games in both competitions combined.

Havertz needs to get better numbers, but he also needs to be given time as he needs to adjust to a new team and country.
