Perhaps the highlight of today’s election petition hearing for most fans of the drama unfolding in the Supreme Court was the exchanges between Judge Marful Sau and the second defendant’s lead attorney, Akoto Ampaw.
After making his presentation on why the petitioner, John Mahama, should not be able to reopen his case, the judge said: “Mr. Akoto Ampaw, I think you have to change your wig, you have lost your identity as a wig.”
This put the rather serious courtroom into a frenzy as those who were there couldn’t help it, but burst out laughing at his comment.
In response, Mr. Ampaw took off his wig to look at it again and went ahead to put it back on his head.
He then said, “My Lord, give him a unique identity,” prompting another round of laughter from those in the courtroom.
Meanwhile, the jovial exchange sparked a backlash from social media users.
