The African Confederation of Soccer (CAF) has set January 16 to February 7 as the date for the Total African Nations Championship.
The competition that was scheduled for Cameroon this year had to be rescheduled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision reached during the meeting of the Executive Committee of the continent’s governing body for soccer also rescheduled the 2022 competition for Algeria to host 2023.
A statement issued by CAF said that the competition that was “initially scheduled for April 4-25, 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the final tournament of the Cameroon 2020 Total African Nations Championship will now take place. held from January 16 to February 7, 2021.
The CAF also claimed to introduce a novel rule of making four substitutions that could only be made in an overtime event during the knockout stages of the competition.
“In addition, the 4th substitution rule will apply in case of overtime in the round of 16 of the competitions.
Although the next edition of the competition in Algeria has been rescheduled, no date has been set and the CAF said it would be subject to a discussion with the host country’s football authorities.
“The final phase of the Algeria 2022 Total African Nations Championship will be rescheduled for January 2023. The exact dates will be discussed with the Algerian Football Federation.”
