As part of efforts to benefit greatly from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), members of the Ghana CEO Network have organized a cocktail party to discuss the prospects for the Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The cocktail party gave network members the opportunity to interact and offer ideas to the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Zone, Wamkele Mene.

Wamkele Mene used the platform to assure network members that the agreement will benefit all countries regardless of their levels of development.

He described the status of the African Continental Trade Area as the fastest trade agreement adopted by the member countries of the African continent.

According to him, the commitment shown by the heads of state is an indication that the agreement will work for the benefit of all.

With approximately two months to begin the implementation of the Continental Free Trade Area agreement, many companies in Ghana are preparing to seize the opportunity to trade among their counterparts without trade barriers.

The agreement is expected to grant free market access to all member countries that have been ratified so far and increase intra-African trade by more than 50% from its current 18%.

Wamkele Mene reiterated the African Union’s commitment to ensure that no member country is harmed by the agreement.

He described it as the fastest agreement adopted by Africa since the creation of the African Union.

CEO Network praises AfCFTA

The CEO of the CEO network, Ernest De-Graft Egyir, greeted the AfCFTA and expressed his confidence that members will use the meeting to improve their education on the agreement.

He believes Ghana’s CEOs need to come together to better understand the concept of the continental free trade zone.

The McDan Group CEO Daniel Mckorley, for his part, welcomed the Secretary General to Ghana and assured him of the maximum support from Ghana’s private sector for the successful implementation of the trade agreement.

He is confident that Africa will be the winner in January 2021.

The event brought together several captains from high-profile industries.
