Kadedji George, a 42-year-old carpenter, has been voted the best farmer in New Juaben North Township.

Mr. Kadedji was the winner among 19 others at the 36th Farmer’s Day celebration that took place in Asikasu, near Jumapo.

As a prize, he received a tricycle, two bags of fertilizer, six bottles of pesticides, six machetes, a backpack sprayer, and a half-piece GTP wax print.

He has an acre of papaya, yam, cassava, and garden egg, 10 acres of plantain, 15 acres of cocoa, 40 local birds, 10 goats, and 10 sheep.

Mr. Clement Owusu came in second place and Ms. Afi Adjei took third place, while Mr. Isaac Ansah and Ms. Rose Kwabea won the awards for best awards for young women and farmers respectively.

Other awards included the best vegetable producer, the best agricultural extension officer, the best non-traditional crop producer, the best tree producer, the best farmer with physical disabilities, the best poultry farmer and the best farmer-based organization (FBO) .

Area deputy and local government deputy minister Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng urged young people to take advantage of flagship government programs such as Sowing for Food and Jobs and Sowing for Export and Rural Development (PERD) to improve their means of lifetime.

New Juaben South (MCE) Municipal Executive Director Madam Comfort Asante said the government recognized the important role of farmers in the national economy, hence the introduction of planting for food and jobs and planting for export and rural development to improve livelihoods. of farmers.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Courage Narh, described the Sow for Food and Jobs program as an intervention that had increased yields and improved farmers’ livelihoods.

He congratulated farmers for their hard work and urged them to adhere to the guidelines of agricultural extension officers to improve production.
