Senior Defense and Interior Member James Agalga has endorsed calls by the Minority to demand the immediate removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Boanuh.
The minority in parliament is demanding the immediate removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh, for failing to ensure the safety of Ghanaians during the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
A total of 61 election and post-election incidents were recorded across the country, the National Electoral Security Working Group (NESTF) said in a statement.
The National Electoral Security Working Group (NESTF) noted that 21 of the incidents were actual cases of electoral violence.
Six of them involved gunshots that killed five people.
Speaking to Atinka FM’s AM Drive host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Senior Defense and Interior Member James Agalga said the IGP has not done its duty.
“The IGP appeared before us (Parliament) and assured us that he was the chairman of the Electoral Security Working Group. I clearly remember how the minority leader, Haruna Idrissu, let him know that if something went wrong, the minority would hold him responsible for any non-compliance. Now five people died. His men attacked innocent citizens, unarmed civilians and shot them, and he is still at the post, ”Ofori Ayim told Kaakyire.
James Agalga added that if he were the IGP, he would have done the honorable thing by resigning himself.
