Call off your strike immediately: NLC orders GCNet workers

The National Labor Commission has ordered the GCNet Staff Welfare Association to suspend its strike with immediate effect.

In a statement issued by the Association, the president of Social Welfare, Felix Agbodeka, stated that the sit-down strike complies with article 159 of the 2003 Labor Law (Law 651).

“The GCNet Staff Welfare Association has resolved to initiate a series of labor actions against GCNet Management. This is to insist on our demands for immediate payment of the redundancy package to redundant personnel in accordance with the Arbitration Award. Starting today, Thursday, September 24, 2020, and until further notice, GCNet workers will be on a legal and legal strike in accordance with article 159 of the 2003 Labor Law (Law 651) ”, he said.

But the NLC in a press release issued on Friday, October 9, 2020, ordered the leaders of the association to appear before the Commission on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

“The National Labor Commission orders the striking workers to suspend the strike immediately and appear before the Commission on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2:00 pm”

“The invitation is in accordance with article 139 of the Labor Law of 2003, Law 651.”

The NLC added that due to COVID-19 protocols, the association must select three representatives to represent them.

“In view of the COVID-19 protocols, representation to the audience by each side is restricted to a maximum of three (3) people and this should be noted. Therefore, workers must select three (3) people to represent them at the hearing. ”
