Defender Nartey Polo anticipates his next meeting with the Ghana team

Salinas’ Ghanaian defender Nartey Polo believes his club is in a better position to land a Caf Confederation Cup first-round berth over Ghana’s Premier League (GPL) Ashanti Gold.

The two teams are set for a showdown in the preliminary round of the continental championship as they met in Monday’s draw.

The Burkina Faso club will travel to Ghana for the first leg on November 27-29 and will host the reverse match a week later.

“I was very happy when I heard the news that we will be playing Ashanti Gold in the Confederation Cup,” Polo told Ashh FM.

“I know Ghanaians are the best when it comes to football and we also play good football so it will be very exciting and interesting to play against Ashanti Gold.

“I’ve known for years that Ashanti Gold was one of the best teams, but for now I don’t know their players or the team.

“We [Salitas] they are good in all aspects of the systems used in soccer. Salitas is very strong when it comes to finances, so it will surely qualify before Ashanti Gold. “

The overall winners of the AshGold-Salitas tie will face El Amal from Sudan or KVZ FC from Zanzibar in the next round of the competition.

Salitas is the 2018-19 Burkinabe Premier League runner-up.

“I think the club can make a case in Africa with better preparations,” Elmina Sharks coach Yaw Acheampong said of AshGold’s campaign in Africa in June, as reported by Footballghana.

“Now the players are embarking on individual training thanks to Covid-19 and that is not enough for them.

“I will beg you to prepare well. They have some talented players like Amos Addae and other good players who have tasted Africa.

“So if the management can strengthen the team, they can do well after having experience this season.”

Last season, AshGold played similarly in the Caf Confederation Cup, and his campaign ended in the first round for the Moroccan teams RS Berkane.
