Asante Kotoko travels to Mauritania to face Nouadhibou FC in the first leg of the preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederations Cup.
Asante Kotoko finds himself in a new era with Nana Yaw Amponsah, who has made the club’s management a more viable and productive entity and is starting a new adventure in Africa against a relatively well-known Nouadhibou FC.
Asante Kotoko has not had a spectacular start to the season after drawing two of their league games against Eleven Wonders and Berekum Chelsea in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.
However, they have had a competitive game to count on, unlike their opponents who have yet to start their season, which is good to bring Asante Kotoko into this match.
FC Nouadhibou will be a tough customer for Asante Kotoko, as they have won the league three times in a row in the last three seasons.
In African competitions, Nouadhibou FC have been good at home which will give them a source of energy to achieve a good result against a “giant” in Africa who have not done well in Africa in the last five away games.
Both teams will have a fully functional available squad to choose from with Youssouf Ibroihim Djoudja, Drissa Kouyate, Fouaz Faiddini, Mostapha Diaw, Cheikh Moulaye Ahmed being the backbone of the Nouadhibou FC squad available for Amir Abdou to choose from.
Habib Mohammed, who chose the team’s Man of the Match award in Asante Kotoko’s last game against Berekum Chelsea, would not be available alongside Augustine Okrah and did not travel with the team.
Habib is suspended for this match while Augustine Okrah is in Morocco to complete a move to RS Berkane.
Abdul Latif Anabila and Fabio Gama haven’t fully recovered to make this journey with Asante Kotoko, but Maxwell Konadu will have most of his trusted players on the battlefield.
Asante Kotoko is likely to start with Kwame Baah- Christopher Nettey, Abdul Ganiu Ismail, Mubarik Yussif, Ibrahim Imoro- Emmanuel Keyekeh, Kwame Adom Frimpong, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Godfred Asiamah- Ibrahim Osman and Kwame Opoku.
The winner of this tie will play either Vipers FC from Uganda or Al Hilal Omdurman from Sudan.

The game is scheduled to be played at 4:00 PM.
