Businessman allegedly defrauds Accountant for gold mining documents

A 36-year-old businessman who allegedly defrauded an Accountant for ¢ 15,000 GH on the pretext of getting him a community gold mining permit and certificate has been indicted in Kaneshie District Court.

Wisdom Adzoma, accused of fraud and possession of forged documents, has pleaded not guilty.

The Court presided over by Ms. Ama Adomako Kwakye admitted Adzoma released on bail in the amount of GH ¢ 20,000 with two bonds.

The defendant is expected to reappear on February 1, 2021.

The prosecutor, Police Inspector John Baidoo, said the complainant, Achelles Addo, resided in Lashibi while the defendant resided in Doblo, near Amasaman.

Inspector Baidoo said that on January 23 this year, the complainant met with Adzoma at the Alisa Hotel in Accra and during their conversation, the accused introduced himself to the complainant as a small miner and is currently working with the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining. and that could help you get the mining documents from the community.

The prosecution said that the complainant, who planned to participate in a community mining, was convinced and decided to give it a try.

Inspector Baidoo said that the defendants charged the complainant an amount of GH ¢ 20,000 and subsequently collected an amount of GH ¢ 15,000 to acquire the necessary documents for community mining for the complainant within four days.

“The accused person after having managed to take the money from the complainant, did not fulfill his promises and all the efforts made by the complainant to get the accused to take the document or recover their money was useless,” said the prosecution.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on February 17 of this year, the complainant called the accused to inform him that he had an unspecified sum of money to deliver to the accused to expedite the process.

The prosecution said that the defendant agreed and met with the complainant at the Alisa Hotel and delivered a copy of the Environmental Permit (Community Gold Mining Certificate) and the Community Mining Permit to the complainant.

The Prosecutor said that the complainant made his search and inquiries and realized that the documents were false.

Adzoma, the prosecution said, was arrested and in his cautionary statement, he mentioned an Ofori as his source, but did not help police arrest said Ofori or assist police investigations.
