BUDU’S CORNER: Predicting the Kotoko XI that could start against Legon Cities

All eyes will be on Accra on Friday night as Asante Kotoko seeks her first win of the season. A Legon Cities team made in the image of their star player, Asamoah Gyan, stands in their way.

Certainly, there is a buzz of excitement over what is expected to be an open and entertaining clash.

Legon Cities are winless in four games. They have lost one with three games tied. The Money Boys have struggled to find consistency this season, as those results show, coming into this match after a 0-0 draw with Dreams FC last weekend.

The new manager, Bashir Hayford, is tasked with giving a listless side a new life and his former employers will be his first opponents. With that said, let’s take a look at how Asante Kotoko XI Maxwell Konadu could parade against the Legon Cities on Friday night.

Razak Abalora (GK) – With Felix Annan out of play due to an injury he sustained against Berekum Chelsea, the competition for the position will be between Kwame Baah and Razak Abalora. Baah has struggled to maintain the form that saw him surpass Annan last season. As such, Abalora is likely to have its first start to the season.

Christopher Nettey (RB) – One of the most consistent artists on Porcupine Warriors. He might offer more in the future, but he should be more than capable of keeping Jonah Attuquaye or Baba Mahama quiet.

Abdul Ganiu (CB) – A leader at the rear, Ganiu has stood his ground in the face of adversity, proving his many critics got it wrong with some decent performances. However, you know that clean sheets should start to flow.

Habib Mohammed (CB) – The rotation is imminent, but difficult days require experience, something that Habib has together with Ganiu. It should start ahead of Mubarik Yusif.

Imoro Ibrahim (LB) – It looks very exciting in the future, but it’s still overdue to really show what it can do in the other direction. If David Cudjoe plays, he will seek to enter behind Ibrahim through the canals.

Kwame Adom (CM) – The minutes on the court are slowly increasing for “Fabregas”, and he seems to be growing in confidence with each passing performance. He loses a lot of passes, but he is the only player who always looks ahead and tries to make things happen.

Emmanuel Keyekeh (CM) – Keyekeh impressed during his time with Karela United and quickly became immovable in Kotoko’s engine room.

Emmanuel Gyamfi (RW) – He has not been able to reach the same form that he did last season, but even so, Gyamfi offers rhythm in attack and that is crucial to stretch the defenses. Able to play down the middle or out of bounds as a winger, his flexibility will come in handy for Kotoko’s team on Friday.

Godfred Asiamah (LW) – You’ve had to wait patiently for your chance, but now the misleading winger seems really wanting to go. He’ll relish the chance to get behind the Royals’ bottom line and wreak havoc.

Ibrahim Osman (ST) – Having made a timely reminder of his quality against FC Nouadhibou in the first leg of the preliminary phase of the CAF Champions League, it is unlikely that the smart forward will be expelled from the Kotoko Cities team to start against Legon . Konadu will want to finish the game pretty quickly, and the forward certainly knows where the back of the net is.

Kwame Opoku (ST) – Opoku will be Kotoko’s dangerous man when entering this game. The former Nkoranza Warriors forward has burst onto the scene and has earned the full support of the coach and the club’s fans, and will be their main threat by winning Sunday’s game.
