Bruno Fernandes is enjoying more minutes on the pitch with Donny van de Beek after the Dutchman impressed in Manchester United’s 3-2 comeback at Southampton.
Van de Beek received his first Premier League start from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at St Mary’s, but appeared to be heading for defeat with United 2-0 down at half-time.
But half-time substitute Edinson Cavani, another summer arrival alongside Van de Beek, scored twice, and Fernandes scored the other, to turn the game around.
Fernandes delivered an enthusiastic assessment of the Dutch international after the victory at St Mary’s.
Donny has a lot of quality. We know we can play together and also with other players that we have, ” Fernandes said, according to The Sun, of Ajax’s £ 40 million arrival in summer.
‘We all have quality to play and we know each other. We can play with three and then switch and play the next game with another three or another four.
“It doesn’t matter because everyone has quality and we can all be together on the field, everyone can make a difference.
“Donny played a very good game, but Fred and Nemanja (Matic) were very important to us.”
The three points against Southampton lifted United to ninth in the table, but they are just three points behind Chelsea, third, with one game less.
Fernandes and Van de Beek’s attention is now focused on the Champions League, where United host French giant Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The two-goal hero Cavani is racing to start himself after his fantastic appearance as a substitute at Southampton, while Solskjaer must decide whether to break the developing partnership between Fernandes and Van De Beek.
The victory would seal United’s place in the round of 16 of the tournament with a group match to spare.
