Bruno Fernandes has made it clear that he expects Paul Pogba to remain at Manchester United in the near future.
The French midfielder has been perennially linked with a departure from the club in recent months, and it is not certain that he will remain at Old Trafford after this summer.
Despite speculation, Pogba was instrumental in his team’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Friday, earning a penalty that Fernandes converted for United’s second goal.
And speaking to MUTV after the game, the Portuguese star expressed his admiration for his teammate.
“I think Paul was the best today,” he said. “The first goal is made by a good skill, it comes off a player so easily.
“But we all know the qualities he has. I think there is no doubt.”
Pogba hasn’t always been to everyone’s liking, with some voicing their belief that he’s overrated early in the season.
But Fernandes believes his performance against Villa shows how important he can continue to be for the team.
And he suggested that Pogba will continue to improve the more he plays in the coming weeks, and seems to be hopeful that he won’t go anywhere anytime soon.
“I hope people have no doubts about Paul’s qualities because we know he can play, he can help us and he can play really well,” Fernandes continued.
“He was [involved] in both goals. On the penalty you see one of the best who can do, cover the ball and get away from his player, and I think he will give more and more with the confidence that comes game after game.
United activated a one-year contract extension linking Pogba to the club until the summer of 2022 in October.
Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris St Germain are believed to be interested in the winner of the 2018 World Cup.
