Argentina’s giants Boca Juniors isolated the players and suspended training for 72 hours after coronavirus tests revealed a COVID-19 “outbreak” in the squad, the club confirmed in a statement on Monday.
The team is currently in a bubble at a hotel complex on the outskirts of Buenos Aires preparing for the Copa Libertadores restart on September 17, and club doctor Rubén Argemi told Fox Sports that there are “about 19” positive cases of COVID-19.

Argemi did not want to give names because of the possible presence of false positive tests, but added that “we assume there are many cases and there is a problem.
Boca Juniors sent the players to their rooms and canceled training as a precaution while further testing was under way, with the famous Argentine team scheduled to play Libertad in Paraguay on September 17 in the Libertadores group stage.
The club was testing players twice a week in its bubble and had been testing negative results, until Friday night, when COVID-19 symptoms were detected at the camp. After the smear test results came back positive, the club made the decision to isolate all the players and wait for the results of the PCR tests that were performed on Sunday.

The Argemi club doctor confirmed that all the cases except one have been asymptomatic and that Boca does not understand how the environment of the bubble was contaminated.
“Nobody outside the delegation enters or leaves the hotel,” Argemi said. “We don’t know what happened … We followed the protocol of CONMEBOL, which is the most demanding, vigorously. No player came out of the bubble.”
Coach Miguel Angel Russo, 64, has left the bubble because of his age and medical history, according to reports.
Libertad’s coach, Ramón Díaz, sent a message of support to Boca before the match between the two.
“It’s a shame because Boca is always a very important club,” said the former River Plate Diaz coach. “I think Argentina is going through a difficult and difficult time, I hope I can overcome it as quickly as possible and the players can improve.
“We need everyone to be well, I hope they take care of themselves and improve.”
