The National Association of Concerned Drivers has blamed the rising number of coronavirus infections on the government’s failure to handle the situation.

The group says some senior officials who contracted the virus and yet went out to meet people have not been punished, nor was any contact tracing conducted to track down the people they met.

The association’s public relations officer, David Agboado, told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that they will blame President Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Health for not handling the situation.

The fact that the authorities did not give Ghanaians the weekly update, as they did when we had our big cases, has also contributed to the sharp increase in our cases, he added.

He wants public education to be intensified so that Ghanaians do not let their watch end.

Agboado said the public is not ready for another lockdown, so the government should take steps to prevent a second wave of infections.

In his 19th speech on Sunday, November 8, 2020, President Akufo-Addo expressed concern about the increase in daily virus infections.

“Our observation, however, is that the reduction in adherence to preventive protocols explains the increase in infections. Ghanaian comrades, it seems that we are letting our guard down. Now more than ever we have to comply with the protocols for the use of masks, hand washing, disinfectants and social distancing ”.

“To help stop this new threat of increasing infections, [the] The government is going to reaffirm the steps that have served us well so far. We are improving the tracking, testing and treatment measures, that is, 3T. In addition to this, we will continue to limit the importation of the virus, we will embark on the strategic and controlled relief of public gatherings, we will improve public education and information and we will continue to provide relief and support to individuals, families and businesses. “

According to him, the number of daily infections was increasing with an average of 130 new cases registered each day for the past two weeks.

But the group’s PRO blamed the president and his appointees for the situation, emphasizing the need for them to resume weekly updates so that Ghanaians know that the virus is still with us.

“We are blaming President Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Health for the increase in our cases. The weekly updates we received were helpful because they made Ghanaians aware of our cases. They were able to understand the need to strictly adhere to security protocols. But we have stopped weekly updates and therefore Ghanaians believe that the virus is no longer with us, ”he emphasized.
