Black Stars Coronavirus Cases Rise to SIX After Jordan Ayew Tests Positive – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

Ghana and Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has become the sixth player to test positive for the coronavirus after last week’s friendlies against Mali and Qatar.

The 27-year-old confirmed the positive test for the virus on his social networks and is currently receiving treatment.

“Unfortunately, I have tested positive for Covid-19 and have started my quarantine in accordance with health guidelines. Fortunately, I feel fine and I don’t have any symptoms. I will be cheering for the boys from home and I hope to return to the field soon ”.

With the sudden increase in the number of confirmed positive cases in the team, it is certain that the players and team officials who traveled for the two games will now face the real prospect of quarantine for the increasing cases.

Several clubs in Europe that had their players play in Ghana’s two matches during the international break are now vying to contact the Ghana Football Association about the cases while also conducting their independent tests.

Black Stars coronavirus cases hit five on Sunday after it became clear that Hoffenheim defender Kasim Adams has joined the growing number of Ghana team players who had contracted the virus.

Vitoria Guimaraes left-back Gideon Mensah, Spanish defender Joseph Aidoo and Besiktas midfielder Bernard Mensah, as well as Black Stars management committee member Jones Abu Alhassan, were confirmed to have contracted the virus during training camp in Turkey.

Apart from the five players confirmed to have contracted the virus, Ekuban has been hospitalized in Turkey after showing strong symptoms of coronavirus with a very high temperature.

The 26-year-old was also a roommate of Bernard Mensah during Black Stars’ week-long training camp in the Turkish city of Antalya and the Besiktas midfielder tested positive for the deadly disease.

However, the tests at Ekuban came back negative and the doctors are leaving nothing to chance and have asked him to self-quarantine at home while they monitor him.

The latest revelation will raise serious concerns for Ghana’s soccer authorities who would be in the race to uncover the full extent of infections in the team when it played matches against Mali and Qatar.

Fears about the Black Stars arose when it was confirmed that four players on the Mali side had contracted the virus and it was feared that it could spread to the Ghana national team when they faced their West African rivals.

The full scope would be known this weekend when all the players had returned to their clubs, where they are likely to face tougher testing.

It will also give the Ghana Football Federation insight into how to prepare and protect their players and officials during their upcoming matches in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
