Simba SC striker Bernard Morrison has been suspended for three matches after violent conduct during the continental Premier League tie against Ruvu Shooting on Monday.
Morrison was involved in a physical altercation with Juma Nyoso, who has also been penalized and fined, after Simba received a penalty in the 71st minute.
The Ghanaian was upset by a poor challenge from Shabani Msala over Luis Miquissone as he entered the Ruvu Shooting area. As the players circled the referee before he awarded a penalty, Morrison appeared from behind and hit Ruvu’s shooting star and that increased the tension even more.
Simba Player [Bernard] Morrison is banned from appearing in three games for hitting [Juma] Nyoso from Ruvu Shooting. Nyoso, for his part, has been fined 500,000 TSh and a three-game suspension for intentionally stepping on Morrison, ”a Premier League Board statement obtained by Goal read.
Morrison received no immediate punishment from Singida’s center referee Abdalla Mwinyi even after Nyoso showed where he had been hit by the former Orlando Pirates winger.
The escalation of tension on the pitch delayed the game by more than four minutes and required the intervention of the Simba captain, Bocco, who failed to convert the penalty, to calm the players on both sides.
Ivorian defender Serge Wawa had to pull Morrison on the sidelines away from the pesky Ruvu Shooting players.
Simba ended up losing the match with a score of 1-0 and it became his second loss in a row this season.
The three-game suspension will mean that Morrison will not participate in the Kariakoo Derby against his immediate former team Yanga SC on November 7 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Yanga’s match against Simba was expected to be highlighted by Morrison’s presence, as his August move created frictions that have yet to be resolved between the two sides and the Tanzania Football Federation.
Although the Player Status Committee declared Morrison a free agent paving the way for his Simba move, Yanga is still challenging the legality of the contract which they claim is legally flawed.
The first game the Ghanaian will miss will be Mwadui’s home game on October 31 and his last will be the away game against Kagera Sugar on November 8.
His absence came when Simba parted ways with goalkeeping coach Muharami Mohamed and team coach Patrick Rweyemamu after two losses.
