In the framework of the MARCA Football Awards, Karim Benzema received the Alfredo Di Stefano award for being the best player in LaLiga Santander in the 2019/20 season.
The French forward scored 21 league goals for Real Madrid to clinch the LaLiga Santander title against Barcelona.
Benzema is the first person besides Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award since Raúl did it in its first edition in 2007/08.
“It means a lot,” Benzema said after receiving the trophy. “I am proud and very happy. It is the reward for my work at this club since 2009 and, as I say, it gives me a lot of satisfaction, without a doubt.
“I have been at Real Madrid for many years and I always work to continue helping the team.
“[Messi and Ronaldo] they are something else. They have won many individual awards and, for me, it is an honor to win it before these two players. “
In the 2020/21 season, Benzema once again proves how valuable he continues to be for Real Madrid.
“I make an effort in each training session thinking about each game,” added the forward. “My idea is to show every day that I can play for this club that, for me, has always been the best in the world.”
The award belongs to Benzema, but who would he have given it to?
“There are many [of possible winners]”, said.” For example, Sergio Ramos, who had a great season. “I don’t look at players from other clubs, always at my teammates.”
