Bee attack leaves 2 dead and 10 injured in Central Region

Two girls died, while 13 other people suffered injuries of varying degrees after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Awutu Kwame Whettey in the western Awutu Senya district of the central region.

The dead people; Esi Anobia, 13 years old; Akua Hannah, 3, was in the company of her mother and other members of the village in search of firewood when the unfortunate incident occurred.

According to Kofi Adjei of Adom News, three of the 13 injured people are in critical condition and receiving treatment at Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

The mother of the deceased, Dorah Quaye, who recounts the incident in an interview, said she was sleeping under a tree when she heard a swarming noise, so she woke up to find that bees had invaded the farm.

According to her, she started running with her last child, only to get to the village and realized that her other two children were not with her.

Ms Quaye said she quickly gathered some citizens to search for her children, but they found them dead from bee stings.

“It is very traumatic for me to have lost two of my children, it is so painful, I can’t stop thinking about it,” the distraught mother told the reporter.
