Bechem United on Sunday beat AshantiGold SC 1-0 to maintain their unbeaten streak in the Ghana Premier League. The victory over the Miners sent them to the top of the league table with 14 points.
Boubacar Sidiki Doumbia and Clinton Duodu got off to an unusual start by taking the place of Charles Bosompem and Emmanuel Owusu Boakye.
The miners also made changes to the side that drew 1-1 when Michael Enu and Dacosta Boadu replaced Kwame Moses and Jacob Apau in the starting lineup. The first chance of the match fell to Bechem United, but AshantiGold goalkeeper Mohammed Bailou made an astonishing save to keep the match 0-0.
The Hunters closed in again ten minutes later, but Hafiz Konkoni’s header went inches from the post.
Former AshantiGold player Steven Owusu finally broke the deadlock in the 54th minute to give the home team the much-needed lead.
Bailou made another spectacular save to deny the hosts doubling their lead.
AshantiGold kept pushing for an equalizer and young Isaac Opoku Agyemang’s effort was well cared for by the Bechem United defense.
The home team then curled up in its half and began to play against it. They began to frustrate the visitors in order to protect their slim advantage.
The victory takes Bechem to the top of the league standings as they remain undefeated after six games, having won four and drawn two.
