BBC bosses are deciding whether to present Marcus Rashford with the Special Achievement Award at this year’s Sports Personality of the Year ceremony.
The Manchester United striker has inspired a nation by addressing the government’s controversial stance on child poverty.
After forcing the Conservatives to take a radical turn on free school meals earlier this year, a motion was made to extend the offer during the upcoming holidays.
That was rejected in Parliament, sparking outrage across the country, with more than a million people signing his petition to end child hunger.

There has been a growing clamor for Rashford to receive the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, for his remarkable efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.
Lewis Hamilton is the current favorite to win the award, after his record 92 Grand Prix victory last week. That saw him outshine Michael Schumacher in individual races, as he closes in on joining the legendary German in seven drivers’ championships overall.
It has been suggested that the BBC is unlikely to name him as a nominee for the main award, but acknowledges that it should be celebrated in some way.
A source told the Sun: “It is still very early in the process, but organizers have discussed how they can recognize Marcus’s outstanding campaign efforts this year.
“It’s tough as the bookies’ favorite is currently Lewis Hamilton, but it would be strange not to recognize the striker in some way.”
The Special Achievement Award has only been presented five times before, jockey Lester Piggott, marathon runner Dennis Moore, comedians David Walliams and Eddie Izzard and Sebastian Coe, for their part in bringing the 2012 Olympics to London.
The Sun suggests that by honoring the English forward for his work off the pitch, he would allow the main award to go to someone for his sporting achievements.

Rashford made headlines for his performances on the field earlier this week, coming off the bench to score an impressive hat-trick in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old is the top scorer in Europe’s top competition, scoring seven goals in just nine appearances in all competitions this season.
Following his goals against RB Leipzig, Rashford took to social media and posted: “3 goals. 16 minutes. 1,030,000 signatures. I can’t stop smiling, I’ve waited a long time for that. I wish the fans lived it with me ”.
