Garth Crooks named Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to his Premier League team of the week on BBC Sport after his performance against Manchester City on Saturday.

José Mourinho gave a tactics masterclass against arch-nemesis Pep Guardiola and came out as the deserved winner. Tottenham stuck to their game plan brilliantly, and Kane played a key role.

The Englishman, for once, didn’t score, but he did everything else. Kane’s move for the first goal caused confusion in the City defense and Son Heung-min was outmatched thanks to it.

The England skipper also played an important role in the second goal. He received the ball and drove into the City’s half before threading a wonderful pass in the way of Giovani Lo Celso, who buried it to give the Spurs victory.

Crooks was very impressed with Kane’s performance against Manchester City. He chose the Spurs star over players like Pedro Neto, Richarlison, Sebastien Haller and Tammy Abraham, who did well for their respective teams this week.

He said: “Kane was not on the scoresheet but his influence on the outcome of the game was unmistakable. The England captain’s move seemed to mislead City and helped prepare for Son Heung-min’s first goal before providing the most glorious pass for Tottenham’s second, which put the game well beyond the visitors. “

Kane started the game as a forward but was everywhere. The Spurs star has dropped to a 10th role in previous games but, against City, he found himself even deeper, sometimes in his own box.

This new role has shown us a whole new side of Kane. His finishing and movement while leading the line were his strengths, but his vision, passing and work pace have taken him to a whole new level.

Mourinho has made Kane a more complete player. The Englishman was seen by Spurs fans as the best striker in the Premier League. But his comprehensive contribution could make him the best player in the division.
