Bayern Munich are right to keep an interest in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
During the last transfer window of the summer, Bayern Munich had to improve the attacking department after Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic returned to their home clubs. The German club signed Leroy Sane early in the window, but the search for the second winger was tedious.
Die Roten wanted to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea at the bottom of the window. However, the English club had no plans to part ways with the young winger. The German champion had to settle for a loan contract for Douglas Costa. The Brazilian has been decent in limited opportunities this season, but it’s not a long-term solution.
According to Goal, Bayern will not look for Hudson-Odoi in January, but he remains a long-term transfer goal for the club. Die Roten is doing everything right in terms of not giving up on Hudson-Odoi despite facing disappointment on two different occasions.
Hudson-Odoi is in Chelsea’s pecking order due to a large number of offensive transfers in the summer. However, the teenager has shown on limited occasions that he has physically recovered from the serious injury he suffered in 2019.
The young English winger has shown great promise in 13 appearances (seven as a starter) this season. He managed to score three goals in these appearances. Yes, there is enough room to improve production in the final third, but Hudson-Odoi has not been given a consistent start to generate any kind of momentum in performances. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
From a technical capability perspective, Hudson-Odoi has it all to be a top quality winger. He can stay wide and beat the winger through dribbling. The English forward can also make dangerous passes in the area. He’s also adept at running runs behind defense, making him a complete package as an open player.
Hudson-Odoi is quite similar to Kingsley Coman. Having four young, quality players will help Bayern enjoy sustained success for a long time. With more playing time, Hudson-Odoi will also get a very good start in the final third, giving Rekordmeister another scoring start for the team.

Convincing Chelsea to part ways with Hudson-Odoi is the only obstacle to Die Roten completing this transfer. It’s good to see Die Roten persist in his interest in the player, as there is no downside to not signing a player of Hudson-Odoi quality. He has the potential to be a world-class player.
