Robert Lewandowski scored once for Bayern and two goals disallowed by VAR
Bayern Munich returned to the top of the Bundesliga with a thrilling victory over rival Borussia Dortmund.
Marco Reus put Dortmund ahead late in the first half, but David Alaba leveled with a deflected shot after a clever free-throw routine in injury time.
Robert Lewandowski headed from a Lucas Hernandez cross and set up Leroy Sane, who stepped in to put them 3-1 up.
Erling Haaland rounded up Manuel Neuer to give Dortmund hope at ‘Der Klassiker’ but they couldn’t find a draw.
Lewandowski thought he had concluded the game in injury time with a shot that was deflected by English Dortmund teenager Jude Bellingham, but the video assistant referee ruled it offside.
The Polish forward also had another first-time effort for the European champions canceled by VAR.
The former Dortmund striker has scored 13 goals in his last eight league games against his former club. He is the all-time top scorer in the Bundesliga in ‘Der Klassiker’ with one for Dortmund and 17 for Bayern.
French winger Kingsley Coman also had a great opportunity for the treble winners, but crashed a post effort.
Bayern, who have won all but two of their matches in all competitions in 2020, surpass RB Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga.
This is the first time they have won more than five of their first seven league games since 2015-16.
Dortmund, who started the day tied on points with Bayern, had chances to tie with Reus overturning and replacing Bellingham with a stopped header.
