The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has wondered why the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) takes credit for solving the problem, when Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia admitted that the old Mahama government solved it.
“This people [NPP], that they have not added a megawatt to Ghana’s generating capacity, that they have done nothing; their only record in the power and electricity sector is PDS, they are busy claiming credit for fixing dumors – a problem that they themselves acknowledged had been fixed by President Mahama even before taking office. ”NDC National Communications Officer , Mr. Sammy Gyamfi said at a press conference on Thursday, November 26, 2020.
According to Gyamfi, Energy Minister John Peter Amewu also admitted at the same station that the Akufo-Addo government had not added any additional capacity to Ghana’s power generation pool and “yet, because these people are unable to say the truth, because they are so dishonest and deceitful because they are so corrupt, they are deceiving people that: ‘we solved’ dumsor ‘and we sponsored advertisements on all the radio and tv stations that solved’ dumsor ‘”.
A few weeks ago, NDC presidential candidate John Mahama jumped into the dumor debate, insisting he ended power rationing before leaving office in 2016 and accused the Akufo-Addo government of using lies to steal. credit for that feat.
Addressing members and supporters of the NDC in Ashalley Botwe on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, the former president explained that it was during his administration that the Ameri and Karpowership power plant were acquired and brought to Ghana, helping to end the dumsor in December 2015.
“Those two new power plants that we brought in ended up with the dumsor,” he said.
According to him, “the PNP believes that Ghanaians are not smart enough; they think our memory is blurry ”.
“There was no dummy in 2016,” he stressed.
“There were no power outages or electricity rationing in 2016 but if the nuclear power plant says they finished dumpers, I challenge them to show me only one power plant that they brought to the country to add to the existing ones,” he challenged.
“Zero megawatt”, he pointed out, highlighting: “They have not added a single megawatt to the existing one.”
He said that virtually every government since independence added some megawatts to Ghana’s power production capacity, except the Akufo-Addo government.
“Nkrumah gave us the Akosombo dam, Acheampong gave us the Kpong dam, President Rawlings gave us the Aboadze power plant, President Kufuor added his, and so did President Mills. I also added mine. This is the only government in Ghana’s history that has failed to add a single megawatt to Ghana’s power pool, ”Mahama noted.
At one point the Royalhouse Chapel International Apostle General, the Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, joined the debate and said that Mahama, as president, stabilized the erratic power situation that plagued his presidency before leaving office.
“You say that John Mahama has done nothing for this nation? That is a lie. He was able to stabilize electricity and power before leaving office, ”Reverend Korankye Ankrah told his congregation on Sunday, November 1, 2020 when he cataloged the achievements of all the presidents of the fourth republic, as part of his teachings on honoring in instead of insulting. the political fathers of the earth.
“John Mahama made roads; Let’s stop this hypocrisy and infantilism, ”he said.
According to the Rev. Korankye Ankrah, every Ghanaian leader has contributed to the development of the country and therefore should be honored and not denigrated by politics.
