Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned the Tolon District Hospital as part of my three day tour of the North Region.

The ultra-modern 60-bed hospital for the Tolon district is one of six medical facilities that started three years ago.

The other facilities are the 80-bed Hospital in Somanya in the Eastern Region; 80-bed district hospital in Buipe in the Savannah region; 60-bed hospital in Wheta in the Volta region; 60-bed hospital in Sawla in the Savannah region and a 30-bed polyclinic in Bamboi in the Savannah region.

Tolon hospital has several departments including the Department of Outpatients and Emergencies, Inpatient Wards for Men, Women and Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Maternal and Child Health), Surgery including an Intensive Care Unit, Physiotherapy, Services of Pharmacy Diagnostics that include X-rays, Laboratory, ultrasound and a mortuary.

In bringing the facility into service, the vice president said that interventions carried out by the government in the health sector have been timely, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We would have succumbed to the devastating effect of the Corona Virus pandemic outbreak had it not been for the skillful handling of the pandemic by the Ghana Health Service and health workers,” he added.
