In a Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia said: “On the occasion of Labor Day, I congratulate the Ghanaian workers for their hard work and patriotic contributions to the development of our country. God bless our workers. God bless our homeland Ghana. “
Meanwhile, the traditional gathering and march of workers to mark the day will not be closed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Congress of Trade Unions (TUC) canceled the celebration activities.
” On behalf of the organized May Day national labor planning committee, the TUC says it regrets to inform all workers and the general public that all activities celebrating May Day 2020 have been canceled in compliance with the movement restrictions with people in Accra and Kumasi and a ban on public gatherings across the country, ” the TUC said in a statement.
The declaration signed by the Secretary General urged all workers to stay home that day and continue to comply with the relevant security protocols in the fight against the coronavirus and hopes to resume the celebration of May Day in 2021.
