Barcelona scored a major La Liga victory on Wednesday, coming back for the first time with Ronald Koeman to beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at the Camp Nou. It was a fun game and the Blaugrana he played well and probably should have scored more. Willian José put La Real ahead, but a roll by Jordi Alba and a single shot by Frenkie de Jong secured the three points.
FIRST HALF
Barça created many chances in the first half and fell behind against the march. Griezmann tried a cheeky volley that whistled wide in the opening minutes, while Pedri headed a good chance just off the target.
Real Sociedad went ahead shortly before the half hour corner kick. The ball headed towards Portu, who slid it through the goal for Willian José to hit it at the far post.
The visitors’ advantage was short-lived, as Alba drew with some flair. Griezmann put the ball in the area and returned it to the goal. Pedri managed to touch it in Alba’s path and curved it in the upper corner.
So the possibilities keep flowing. Griezmann circled the goalkeeper and fired at the crossbar, while Pedri sent Martin Braithwaite into goal but could only shoot one big chance over the bar.
De Jong had to put Barça ahead just before the break. The Dutchman took advantage of a deflected center from Alba from close range, but originally saw his effort nullified for offside. However, it finally came after a VAR check showed it was miles away.
SECOND HALF
The opportunities kept coming after the break. Griezmann had two good chances early in the second half to score against his former team, but couldn’t take them either. In the second, he somehow managed to touch Remiro again with the open goal.
He continued a bit of calm with the two teams making substitutions. Koeman opted to send Carles Alena and Francisco Trincao for the final 25 minutes, giving Griezmann and Sergio Busquets a breather.
Real Sociedad began to see the ball more and needed Pedri to run across the goal to deny Alexander Isak. The teenager ended up crashing heavily into the goalpost and managed to get to his feet, but was replaced by Miralem Pjanic for the final 15 minutes.
The visitors keep coming as Barça faltered in the final stages. Nacho Monreal shot wide at the far post, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen was needed to make a great double stop with just six minutes of regulation time.
However, Barça managed to seal an important victory that places them in fifth place on the table. It is also the first time that Barça has come from behind to win since Koeman took over.
