Carles Tusquets, president of the Barcelona board of directors, has revealed that if the pandemic situation allows it, the club will call elections at Christmas, and the voting process will take place in 40 days.
A special group will be assigned to prepare the elections together with the Catalan government. It should be noted that the Barcelona statutes do not allow electronic voting.
Tusquets explained that all the decisions made by the management committee can be reversed by the incoming board and highlighted that right now they are focused on the club’s economic problems, after the crisis caused by COVID-19.
“We need to continue reducing expenses in the short term and the most immediate is the salary reduction that is in process and that ends on November 5,” Tusquets said. We hope to reach an agreement with the players and non-sports staff of the club.
“The situation of the club is very complex and we have to act in two lines: lower expenses and seek income that we do not have now.”
Tusquets flatly denied a possible bankruptcy, stressed that to balance the books they need to find around 300 million euros and revealed that the profits from the Camp Nou last year were around 220 million euros.
The president of Barcelona’s executive committee is convinced that all parties will reach an agreement and has made it clear that there are several formulas on the table to carry out the salary reduction.
“We don’t want to take money away from anyone, we want to accommodate what is owed to time when it is possible to pay more comfortably,” Tusquets said.
As for the January transfer window, Tusquets explained that only if Barcelona sells players will they be able to buy. Free transfers can also be an option.
“Yes [a transfer] it is worth money, it will be necessary to include a clause so that if the next president wants to revoke it, he can do so ”, declared Tusquets.
