Messi hindered Coutinho

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is the reason for Philippe Coutinho failing to make a success of his move to the Nou Camp, says former Barca midfielder Ronald de Boer.

Coutinho joined Barca from Liverpool in January 2018 for a fee that could rise to £ 142.5million. However, it has not exactly gone to plan for the Brazil international.

“I think Coutinho was a player where everything [went through] him, every ball went to him at Liverpool, “De Boer told talk SPORT.” He could probably do less work, basically what Messi does with Barcelona.

“I think we saw that with Barcelona. There’s only one that can do that now and that is Messi. I think Coutinho is an unbelievable player but sometimes he doesn’t fit the puzzle and maybe with another club it will perfectly go well.”

Wanted: Gerson

Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Tottenham both want to sign Flamengo midfielder Gerson.

That’s according to the player’s father, who appears to suggest that Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have the edge over their rivals.

“Nobody knew about Arsenal, but now that I’m telling you, everyone will know,” Gerson’s father Santos told Yahoo.

Asked whether the rumors of Tottenham and Dortmund’s interest was true, Santos added: “Everyone you hear there is true. But they have only enquired. ”

Santos continued to explain why Gerson opted for Roma ahead of Barcelona in 2016.

“We had everything settled, signed,” he said. “But Barcelona only wanted to pay € 8 million to Fluminense, who really needed the money. So, we decided to go with Rome, who offered € 16m. “

Lautaro Martinez wages

Barcelona are a step closer to signing Argentina international Lautaro Martinez.

That’s according to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim Inter Milan are unable to match Barcelona’s financial package.

The Spanish champions are reported to have offered the 22-year-old a long-term deal worth £ 8.75million (£ 170k-a-week).

But due to the financial impact of the Coronavirus, Antonio Conte’s side cannot match the offer Barcelona have made Martinez, who is currently paid £ 48,000-a-week at the San Siro.

Neymar ‘says no’

Neymar has rocked Paris Saint-Germain by informing them that he won’t sign a new contract and will demand a transfer this summer.

That’s according to Spanish outlet SPORT, which claims Neymar is hell-bent on returning to Barcelona this summer.

Neymar’s contract will expire in 2022, meaning PSG are in no rush to sell, but the longer they hold onto him, the less they are likely to get in way of a transfer fee.

Various French outlets have stated that the Ligue 1 champions are putting all their attentions towards Kylian Mbappe’s future, and will willingly let Neymar leave if it leads to Mbappe’s extension.

Mbappe’s contract runs out in 2022 as well, and PSG are reluctant to let him enter into the final year of his contract.

Lautaro Martinez bid

Barcelona’s opening bid for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez has been rejected.

That’s according to journalist Nicolo Schira, who claims the Spanish champions submitted an offer of £ 61million plus Nelson Semedo and Arturo Vidal in exchange.

Barcelona also offered the 22-year-old a contract worth £ 170,000-a-week at the Nou Camp.

“Confirmed what I said and anticipated 5 weeks ago! Barcelona has offered to Lautaro Martinez a contract with a wages of € 10M a year,” Schira tweeted. “Inter ask the payment of the clause (€ 111M) to sell him and have rejected the first bid of Barcelona (€ 70M + Semedo and Vidal).”

Moussa Dembele chooses

Manchester United are increasingly confident of completing a £ 60million deal for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent scouts to watch Dembele at least three times in the last six months as he tries to convince him to make a switch to Old Trafford.

Chelsea are also keen on the impressive former Celtic forward but the player himself has made sure United know he is their preferred choice.

The Daily star claim Ed Woodward is now poised to make his move knowing Lyon may have to sell as they miss out on European qualification.
