The Enchi District Court of First Instance postponed a lawsuit involving a banana seller who allegedly defrauded a mobile money merchant of GH ₵ 10, 810.00 in Sewum in Aowin Township.

The court, chaired by Mr. Eric Baah Boateng, had previously granted 21-year-old Nafisa Dauda a bond in the amount of GH ₵ 10,000.00 with two bonds.
The court ordered one of the surety to post GH ₵ 5,000.00 and must also be a resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

He is expected to make his next court appearance on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court that Plaintiff Henry Fosu and the defendants are residents of Sewum.

He said that on December 14, 2020, at approximately 1800 hours, while the complainant was in his office, Nafisa approached him with his mobile phone and claimed that his brother would like to send him an amount of GH ₵ 205.00 in the wallet from your mobile phone. But the so-called brother was having some problem with the network, so he asked him to contact any mobile money merchant for help.

Inspector Agyare said that the defendant then handed over her mobile phone to the complainant and said brother reiterated what he allegedly told Nafisa earlier, adding that he would send the GH 205.00 in the form of a token which is another way to transfer money.

The complainant then informed Nafisa’s alleged brother that he was not aware of this form of money transfer, but the accused’s brother insisted that he would help the complainant.

The prosecution said that after a few minutes Nafisa’s brother alerted the complainant that he had mistakenly transferred a cash sum of GH GH 1,599.00 to his accounts, so he should restart the process to allow him to reverse the money in his account.

The prosecution said on the basis that the complainant unknowingly transferred an amount of GH ₵ 9,211.00 to the accused brother’s wallet, bringing the total amount of GH ₵ 10,810.00.

Inspector Agyare said that Nafisa did not pay the money and the complainant reported the matter to the police, where she was arrested and after investigations led to court.
