A former deputy attorney general, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has reprimanded private attorney and member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, for prophesying that the Supreme Court will dismiss the electoral petition filed before her by the candidate. President of the National Democratic Party. Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
The NDC and Mr. Mahama filed on Wednesday, December 30, a petition in the higher court seeking, among other things, a replay of the presidential election, asking the court for an order restraining Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the second Defendant, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to stand as president-elect.
But the former executive director of the Danquah Institute, Mr. Otchere-Darko, posted on his Facebook page that, as part of his prophecies for 2021, “the Supreme Court will rule that the petitioner was unable to provide any material evidence, in terms of of real numbers, to justify the second round he is looking for against Jean Mensa or Akufo-Addo ”.
Speaking on the Key Points program hosted by Abena Tabi on TV3 on Saturday January 2, Dr. Ayine, who is also a Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, said: “Mr. Gabby Otchere-Darko posted on Facebook his prophecies for 2021 , and one of the prophecies is that the Supreme Court will dismiss the petition on the grounds that the petitioner does not have sufficient evidence to prove his petition.
“Now, I found it really disturbing coming from a lawyer who owns a prominent law firm that does a lot of business for the government.
“I think it is improper, it is not ethical. Because, assuming, for the sake of argumentation, that the Supreme Court actually does act the way it has predicted, what do you think people are going to say?
“People may even begin to think that the trial was being written at the time he was saying those things.
“We need to take our constitutional democracy very seriously and you know, the whole idea of lawyers, running to the city with a lot of things. For example, a professor from GIMPA’s law school, Mr. Darko, went to town to write about the petition. We have to be very careful. “
