The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has hinted that there will be an automatic promotion after the children return to school in 2021.
This follows the postponement of the 2019/2020 academic calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Akufo-Addo in his 16th address to the nation announced that the next academic calendar will resume in January 2021.
“The Ghana Education Service, after further consultation, has decided to postpone the remainder of the academic year for all Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students. The next academic year will resume in January 2021 , with necessary adjustments to the curriculum, to ensure that nothing is lost from the previous year” he said.
Speaking in an interview at Hello FM based in Kumasi, Dr. Adutwum explained that students in class 1, for example, will be promoted to class 2.
