On Monday, the Black Queens of Ghana gave the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco their second top loss with a victory inspired by Sandra Owusu Ansah in an international friendly at Accra Sports Stadium.
The Ghana forward scored two goals on the night to give Ghana a 2-0 win. He put Ghana in front on the disconcerting 10th minute keeper Errnichi Khadija, who had made some astonishing saves before.
Priscilla Okyere volleyed in the 14th minute and Sandra Owusu Ansah boldly struck to score her second and sparked celebrations at Accra Sports Stadium.
So the Moroccans took over the game, dominated possession in the latter part of the first half, but had nothing to show when the first half came to an end.
Back from recess, the second half saw both teams pressing hard with Ghana’s captain Elizabeth Addo closing in on 68th and 76 minutes, but his efforts were cleared from the goal line by goalkeeper Errnichi Khadija.
The Black Queens dominated the later stages of the game but were unable to find the back of the net as the Moroccans resorted to a defensive system to avoid an embarrassing score line.
The two teams changed their pattern of play to conserve energy and the game ended 2-0 in favor of Ghana. The Black Queens won 5-1 on aggregate after a 3-1 victory in the reverse tie on Thursday.
The player of the match award was presented to Ghanaian midfielder Juliet Acheampong. The hard-working midfielder took home a trophy for her brilliant display.
Initially, the U-20 side, the Black Princesses defeated their counterparts 4-0 to take a 4-1 aggregate victory after losing the reverse draw 1-0 on Thursday.
Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku was joined by Executive Council members Madam Habiba Attah Forson, Samuel Anim Addo and Linford Asamoah to present trophies to the deserving winners.
Also in attendance were the president of the Accra Regional Soccer Association, Samuel Aboabire, and Simon Ehomah, president of the Western Regional Soccer Association.
The Moroccan senior team won the fair play award, the Black Princesses were chosen as the best team and the Black Queens were the winners for their splendid performance in both games.
The friendlies are part of the two teams’ preparations for their respective assignments in 2021. The Black Princesses will compete in the qualifying rounds for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2021, while the Queens battle for a place in the African Cup of Nations 2022.
