Major Olympics succumbed to a 2-1 loss to AshantiGold SC in matchday eight of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
A second-half goal from substitute Yaw Annor was enough to secure loot for the visiting team who moved alongside Bechem United at the top of the league with 15 points.
AshantiGold started the game on a bright note and striker Hans Kwofie could have put the visitors ahead in the fourth minute after defensive confusion on the Olympics backline, but his shot on goal narrowly missed.
AshantiGold largely dominated in the opening minutes, but it was the Grand Olympics who took the lead against the second round with a superbly delivered strike by their talisman Gladson Awako in the 15th minute.
After the half-hour mark, Isaac Opoku Agyeman and Hans Kwofie had clear opportunities to restore parity for the Elephants, but were unable to seize those opportunities.
But they tied it in first-half stoppage time through Amos Addai, who kept his composure inside the penalty area and struck on goal for AshantiGold.
The second half started with AshantiGold on the front foot and took the lead through substitute Yaw Annor, who launched a magnificent shot out of the penalty area.
The game certainly opened with the Great Olympics being more determined in the attacking third as they sought a tie.
The big Olympics came close to drawing the equalizer in the 70th minute after defender Ebenezer Sekyere headed wide off a Gladson Awako corner kick.
AshantiGold began their delaying antics with the flow of the game that was sporadically stopped to the despair of the Grand Olympics bench.
AshantiGold handled the later stages of the game very well and secured maximum points.
